Indian Govt. Bans Petrol And Diesel Cars By 2030

The Government of India has planned to ban petrol and diesel cars by 2030. The idea is to have no petrol or diesel cars by 2030, replacing them with electric or other green vehicles.

During CII’s Annual Session 2017, Power Minister Piyush Goyal said, “We are going to introduce electric vehicles in a very big way. We are going to make electric vehicles self- sufficient like UJALA. The idea is that by 2030, not a single petrol or diesel car should be sold in the country,”
UJALA is a scheme by the Indian government under which LED light bulbs were made available to people at heavily discounted and subsidized rates. The scheme was a huge hit.
Talking about the incredible success of UJALA scheme, the Minister said, “Through UJALA, the LED distribution programme, we have already seen about 500 million LED bulbs sold in the last two years. My job is to improve India’s energy efficiency to reduce consumption wherever it is wasteful and ensure that demand is met fully.”

The minister said that Government is negotiating with agencies like the NTPC to work out a plausible scheme for mass-scale investment in electric vehicles sector and thus, control down the costs involved. The govt will try to handheld the electric vehicle industry for few initial years He admitted that once people realise that electric cars are cheaper, then there would be high usage of them.
