SoC cybersecurity management certified to ISO/SAE 21434:2021

An automotive cybersecurity management system (CSMS) for the development of microcontrollers (MCU) and system on chips (SoCs) at Renesas Electronics has been certified to the ISO/SAE 21434:2021 standard.

The CSMS cybersecurity framework certification applies to the Renesas design centre in Musashi, Japan and has been certified by TÜV Rheinland Industrie Service.

The certification reaffirms Renesas’ commitment to customers and original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) that Renesas will continue to meet its CSMS responsibilities and help car manufacturers obtain vehicle type approval as part of the recent UN Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE) UNR155 regulation.

All Renesas automotive MCUs and SoCs developed after January 1, 2022, will follow this certified ISO/SAE 21434:2021 Cyber Security Management System (CSMS) development process. This includes the company’s 16-bit RL78 and 32-bit RH850 MCUs as well as its popular R-Car SoC Family.

“With this certification, validated by an independent third party, customers can have confidence that our management of the CSMS process is meeting the requirements defined by ISO/SAE 21434:2021,” said Takashi Yasumasu, Vice President of the HPC Core Technology Division at Renesas. “OEMs and Tier1 suppliers can simplify their vehicle type approval process by utilizing this independent third-party certification, instead of conducting their own audits of our process.”

Renesas has made significant contributions globally to the development of the ISO/SAE 21434:2021 standard.
