Yunex Traffic, Autotalks teams on V2X security

Autotalks is working with Yunex Traffic on privacy and security capabilities on V2X Roadside Units.

The Yunex RSU2X roadside units use the Autotalks chipset to fully comply with the North America Security Credential Management System (SCMS), which is crucial  to ensure trusted communication.

The Autotalks Gen2 chipsets are designed to anonymize communications by decoupling messages from user identities and avoiding the storage of private information. This level of privacy is achieved through an integrated true random number generator that dynamically generates pseudo-user identities, maintaining complete privacy for individuals on the road.

The interoperability of security was tested during the OmniAir certification process, a critical requirement for deployment in the United States.

Autotalks embeds Hardware Security Module (HSM), which holds Federal Information Processing Standard (FIPS) 140-2 and other certifications. These credentials affirm that private keys are securely managed within the device, ensuring that sensitive assets remain fully protected. This is essential for preventing unauthorized access and maintaining trust in connected vehicle networks.

The chipset validates incoming messages in real-time, allowing only trusted data to be processed. Importantly, the Autotalks chipset architecture is completely isolated from other communication links, such as cellular networks, safeguarding the V2X environment from potential remote cyberattacks.

The deployment of Yunex Traffic’s RSU2X units, equipped with Autotalks’ technology, facilitates seamless communication between vehicles and infrastructure. The system supports a wide range of mobility applications, from bus and emergency vehicle prioritization to the real-time detection of pedestrians and vulnerable road users, significantly enhancing road safety and operational efficiency. More than 500 RSU2X units have been deployed across several states, including California, Arizona, Colorado, Florida, and North Carolina, with additional deployments planned.

The RSU2X units are paired with Yunex Traffic’s OBU2X On-Board Units which also use the Autotalks chipsets for adaptive traffic management to reduce traffic accidents and reduce emissions.

“Direct V2X technology is essential for building a trusted ecosystem, and we are committed to providing the confidence of security and privacy in all our solutions. Our collaboration with Yunex Traffic exemplifies this commitment, as we work together to enhance road safety while safeguarding user data,” said Onn Haran, Founder and CTO of Autotalks.

Yunex Traffic, formerly Siemens Intelligent Traffic Systems,  is a separately managed company of the Mundys Group and is active in over 40 countries worldwide. Its intelligent mobility systems are currently being used in major cities across the world, including Dubai, London, Berlin, Bogota, and Miami.
